Verses that affirm the Question: Does God answer prayers?
Yes, God answers prayers, but not every prayer is answered in the way we’d like them to be. It depends on what you are praying for and it also depends on what God’s will is. I want to highlight some prayers that you can be certain God answers.
I want you to have complete confidence your prayer is not only heard, but will be fulfilled, and in many cases, immediately. I’ve chosen to back these up with only one verse, but there are so many verses in the Bible that claim these to be true. This way, you can take these verses to heart and memorize them if you choose to do so.
salvation
This prayer is fulfilled immediately and is the most life-changing. God not only answers your prayer for salvation, but sends His holy spirit to dwell inside you. This is a prayer you only have to pray once in your life. Once you’re saved, you are welcomed into God’s family.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.(John 3:16)
comfort you
There is a level of comfort that no other human can provide as our Heavenly Father can. Pain is unavoidable in this life and when it strikes, it can be unbearable. Perhaps the loss of a loved one or an illness, but God promises to be your comforter. Rest assured, He will comfort you in your time of need.
If you have lost a loved one. These prayers could help prayers for the loss of a loved one.
2 Corinthians 1:3
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
god’s will be done
This is one of the most ambiguous prayers because we are submitting ourselves to Him and relinquishing our own will for our life, so it is very powerful, but we don’t always get the answer we are looking for. Meaning His will may not be what we were wishing and hoping for, but you can be sure it is what is best.
Matthew 6:10
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
help with temptation
If you are human, you have temptations in your life- no one is immune. Everyone’s temptations are different. Yours may be trying not to lose your temper, or not eating that second helping of food. Whatever it may be, God is there to help with this when we pray.
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
take care of your needs
This one probably affects our daily minds the most and is the hardest for us to trust Him with. In fact, the number one stress in families can be financial. Jesus told his disciples that we need not worry about these things. There have been times in my life where I didn’t know how I was going to make it, but I’d look back and see how He’d always come through.
Matthew 6:30-33
But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
grant you wisdom
If you are struggling with a decision you are facing, you can rest assured God will give you the wisdom to help you. We must go to Him in prayer, seeking His wisdom.
James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
give you peace
There is a certain kind of peace that only God can grant us. It goes beyond comfort, it’s a peace that no human mind can comprehend. It’s a shield that God’s spirit places over your heart and mind.
Philippians 4:6
And the peace that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
bless us
This is a prayer that I think we all pray, but I wanted to add something more to it. God already blesses everyone because the Bible says, “He sends rain on the just and the unjust,” but I believe that we, as believers, have special blessings when we obey His commandments.
Luke 11:28
Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
for god to be with you
A common prayer among believers is for God to be with us. I’ve said this prayer many times, but God is always with us. It’s a prayer that makes us feel better about a situation, but we need not ask it at all. Because Jesus himself promised that He would never leave us nor forsake us.
Matthew 28:20b
And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
To conclude, I want to say that this is not a comprehensive list. These are by no means the only prayers God answers.
I want to share one more thing with you in hopes it may inspire your prayer life. I prayed the same prayer for 7 years; for a child of our own. Needless to say, we had some heartbreaks along the way. I lost 5 pregnancies in total. God never promised me a child, but the desire was in my heart. In 2019, I gave birth to our twin boys. I look at them now and I don’t know how I ever doubted God’s love for me. He does answer prayers! Just not always when and how we want them.
Update 2022: Most recently, we got pregnant with a daughter. They diagnosed her with trisomy 14 in utero and she only lived a short time after birth. I never doubted God’s love and prayed for a miracle, but I wanted God’s will to be done. She didn’t survive, but we take heart that we will see her again. I’d never felt closer to God than in that difficult season. He answered my prayer for a daughter. That is something I’ll always have.
I hope this has encouraged you to go to God with full assurance based on these verses that he hears you, but He will answer your prayers.
